Harder than it looks… And thy finally get themselves into the basement while the Angels are all looking around the house for them. Larry’s pretty freaked out and Sally decides it’s a good time for her to go wander around looking for all the other Angels, and all Larry has to do us not blink. Because they take their eyes away from the Angel just outside and, well… Merchandising anyone?īut he can’t fanboy-out for long because the Angels have been listening and Sally and Larry have not. He even tells Sally how he has one of the things the Doc says, “the angels have the phonebox,” on a t-shirt. Larry himself is having a grand old time. Ok, not really magic because Larry’s writing down everything Sally says and will later put the whole transcript together and somehow the Doctor gets a hold of it. But this time it sounds like Sally and the Doctor are talking to each other. But she gets him to bring one and a portable DVD player with him to the deserted house.Īnd we get to see the whole recording of the Doctor from start to finish. The list of DVD’s that Larry gave to her, that is, and she needs to figure out how they’re all related.Īnd it takes a little while, but she does figure it out: they’re all her DVD’s! Yes, Sally only has 17 DVD’s, as Larry admonishes her. Yep, he’s about to die in 2007, but has just enough energy to deliver the Doctor’s message, that she needs to look at the list. They tell him he’s been sent back in time and, well, they need him to deliver a message in 2007. And one of the only times we see the Doctor and Martha in person the whole episode. …because he ends up in the 60’s! The 1960’s, that is. Billy goes to investigate, but that was probably a bad idea… Billy gets Sally’s number before she leaves, and before all the angels show up. Plus there’s an old “police box” that also showed up one day. Either the Angels have followed her there or they really are everywhere.Īnd she meets Billy Shipton, the cop who tells her there’s been a lot of disappearances and cars being abandoned by the old mansion. Then Sally goes to the next logical place: the police station. But Laurence Nightingale? Doctor Who, you made a funny… It is Larry that shows Sally the video of the Doctor and gives her a list of all the DVD’s he’s an Easter egg on. Not exactly something she could tell him herself now. Sally heads to meet Kathy’s brother Larry, short for Laurence, to tell him that his sister loves him. So Sally takes the packet of pictures and letter from her friend Kathy and looks them over, This is just about the creepiest scene in the whole episode and I wish I had a GIF of it to show you just how creepy. While she does that, the angels open their eyes to see her, but immediately close them when she walks by again. In the present, Sally’s still snooping around and takes a key that one of the angels is holding. We find out later that this is how the Angels get their power, by sending people to the past and taking the energy from the life they would have had. Because she’s now in Hull in 1920 and meeting her future husband. In the meantime, Kathy disappears, never to be seen in 2007 again. It turns out to be someone with a delivery for her, from her friend Kathy. Sally decides to bring her BFF Kathy Nightingale (don’t they have the best last names?) to the abandoned house, but little does she know that will be the last time she sees her…Īnyway, while they’re snooping, the doorbell rings and Sally goes to answer it alone. Have I mentioned how much I love Steven Moffat? He’s the writer of this episode, but doesn’t take over as showrunner until season 5, so we have some time til we officially get to his Doctor.Īnyway, the episode starts out with Sally sneaking into an old abandoned mansion and coming across this message written on the wall just for her: So, there’s a set number of things he can say and do.Īnd partially because it’s just such a well-executed episode and the Weeping Angels are absolutely terrifying! I don’t know how a monster that doesn’t move can be so terrifying, but I guess that’s the magic of Steven Moffat. In fact, for most of the episode, he’s on a video that only goes in a loop. Partially because it doesn’t assume any knowledge, since the whole episode is from Sally Sparrow’s point of view. If anyone asks what episode they should watch to get into Doctor Who, this is my go-to. This episode is my favorite, if I had to pick a favorite.
